Large Waistline

Being overweight or obese is a metabolic risk factor when the excess weight is carried around the abdomen. A body mass index, or BMI, between 19 and 24 is considered normal. Generally, a BMI between 25 and 29 is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or above is considered obese.

For men, a large waistline measures greater than 40 inches around. For women, a large waistline measures greater than 35 inches around. In order to measure your waist, place a tape measure around your bare abdomen just above the hipbone. Make sure the tape is snug but not digging into the skin, and make sure it’s parallel to the floor all the way around. Relax, exhale, and measure.
